About Mount Lemmon

Mount Lemmon is a short 45-minute drive up from the base of the mountain and offers a much cooler climate in the summer and snow in the winter. There are mostly cabins and a small town center that offer some boutique restaurants and of course the ski area. On the way up the scenic drive, you can stop off at Rose Canyon lake where fishing and camping are allowed. The views are spectacular and breathtaking so on your first trip pack a light lunch and take your time to enjoy the views.  

Activities and attractions

  1. Hiking and Nature Trails: Explore the numerous hiking and nature trails in the area. Some popular trails include the Butterfly Trail, Aspen Trail, and Marshall Gulch Trail. These trails offer opportunities to witness stunning vistas, diverse plant and animal life, and the beauty of the mountain landscape.

  2. Camping and Picnicking: Mount Lemmon has several campgrounds and picnic areas, such as Rose Canyon Lake Campground and Spencer Canyon Campground. Spend a night under the stars, or enjoy a picnic surrounded by nature.

  3. Ski Valley: During the winter months, head to Ski Valley on Mount Lemmon for skiing, snowboarding, and snow play. It offers slopes suitable for beginners and experienced skiers alike, as well as equipment rentals and lessons.

  4. Wildlife Viewing: Keep an eye out for wildlife as you explore Mount Lemmon. The area is home to a variety of animals, including deer, squirrels, birds, and sometimes even bears. Be respectful and observe wildlife from a safe distance.

  5. Mount Lemmon Observatory: Visit the Mount Lemmon SkyCenter and Observatory for a unique stargazing experience. Join guided tours and view celestial objects through high-powered telescopes, learning about the night sky from knowledgeable astronomers.
